YOUTH CENTERS

The heart of the project is to create youth centers that are multipurpose structures. Centers that serve as schools in the morning and as youth gathering centers (like an oratory) in the afternoon and, more generally, as a community center for the area, managed by an educator.
This project has so far been launched in Colombia and consists of:
building new gathering centers in the most remote villages so that they become the meeting point for the community, as well as hosting the teachers who will give lessons there and the center's reference educator;
using the schools already present in the area as afternoon youth gathering centers.
These are the two main objectives; thanks to our team's many years of experience in the educational and organizational fields, we are working to train new educators on site, so that they become points of reference, and during the summer we will bring our summer camp to three schools in the area (Coredi-Marinilla, Coredi-Rionegro, Coredi-El Penol) with our team to train and give hands-on experience of what it means to animate; it will also be an opportunity to train new animators and educators.

In July 2024, at the end of the Italian summer oratories, we took nine young people from the Milanese oratories to Colombia.
After a quick visit of the area and a brief study of the country's history, the young people dedicated a week to the newly established oratories (Coredi Marinilla, Coredi Rionegro, Coredi El Peñol). Each day in a different oratory, the young people collaborated with the local leaders to organize games, activities, and workshops that could give the children a day full of joy and happiness.
Furthermore, the surprise came when the bishop of the diocese of Sonson-Rionegro, Mons. Fidel, came to visit us with about twenty assistant priests to better understand what an oratory was and why one should "waste" time on it; fascinated by the testimonies of the young people, he decided to open oratories throughout his diocese as soon as possible, two of which have already been activated: Oratorio La Piñuela in Cocornà and Oratorio La Presentación in Rionegro.
As the final act of this experience, together with the leaders of the Coredi Marinilla oratory, the young people set out on a mission to the town of Santa Ana Granada.

In these months we have continued the three summer oratories already active in Milan (IT).
Furthermore, throughout the month of June, six Colombian boys came to Milan to experience the summer oratory. Here they learned how to organize and manage an oratory, but also to have a life experience; they were hosted by some families where they had the opportunity to share their own culture and compare it, and they visited and learned about the history of Italy thanks to trips to Rome, Florence, and Como.
All this to add to their own experience and to open their eyes to a theme that is very close to our hearts, as well as theirs: the education of the youngest.

In these months we have also networked with various associations and organizations present in Italy (Oratorio Gentilino, Oratorio LaRiva, Oratorio San Cipriano, ASD Gentilino, ASD Juvenilia), Colombia (Coredi Organization, Diocese of Sonson-Rionegro, Amigos del Mar), and Brazil (Savipa Association); thanks to this last collaboration, Sendas helps in the management and support of the six oratories (São Vicente, Canyon, Belo Horizonte, Vale Verde, Diamantino, Centenário) founded by Savipa in the Brazilian favelas of the city of Caxias do Sul, in the region of Rio Grande do Sul.
